Fin de semana

It's been a pretty chill weekend for us in Buenos Aires, starting with a trip to Crobar on Friday night. Our taxi driver got angry when we told him we noticed he drove around in circles three times instead of driving directly to the location we needed, even pretending to not know where it was and 'figuring it out' in the middle. We refused to pay the full 25 pesos, which upon reflection was pretty stingy since that's really only $6 USD, but ended up paying less. Not the best start of the night, but we walked into a cover band singing American music like Katy Perry & Lady GaGa in pretty good English!

We had a great time dancing and just hanging out with each other. Saturday, Stacey and I went to Palermo Viejo/Palermo Hollywood to check out the market. All the designers from the designer clothing stores reserve spaces in the bars, and sell a ton of awesome clothing. Setting a budget of 300 pesos, I bought a black over the shoulder purse, a black sweater and two beautiful dresses! The amazing thing about Argentina is that all the prices we paid would be reasonable to pay in US dollars in the United States.

Saturday evening, Jordin, Stacey and I went to our first tango lesson! We took two classes at La Viruta: a milonga tango class and a rock dance class. We went through all of the progressions in terms of posture and footwork, practiced in a line and then practiced in pairs. The instructors were really great and passionate for what they do. They emphasized how the tango is about following the man's lead, and all that can really be taught is the proper form and positioning.

After an hour and a half of tango, a montón of people arrived at La Viruta for rock dancing. This showed me why America has obesity, because everyone from ages 15-80 does not go dancing every weekend like they do here! They wee all in great shape! The rock class began like a huge zumba line dance practice, with music like "Sweet Home Chicago" and from the 50s and 60s. We split up into three levels and learned some crazy footwork proper form for being twirled. I'm excited to go back for more classes and bought 4 more passes!

The perfect meal. Waffle with dulce de leche, dulce de leche + chocolate chip ice cream, and pomelo soda to drink. YUM.

Tonight, we're celebrating the 4th of July by making hot dogs and having people over for a mini-celebration Argentina-style! I attempted to make a cake that looks like a US flag, but they don't sell frosting or whipped cream, so the cake will lean more toward Argentina-style being a vanilla cake with dulce de leche. We didn't even have a cake pan, so I cooked it in a pot...but it worked! No functional fixedness here.

To all my friends back home, have a great 4th and day off of work :)
